Our Story

Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR. follows enigmatic candy manufacturer Willy Wonka as he stages a contest by hiding golden tickets in five of his scrumptious candy bars. Whoever comes up with these tickets will win a free tour of the Wonka factory, as well as a lifetime supply of candy.

Four of the five winning children are insufferable brats, but the fifth is a likeable young lad named Charlie Bucket, who takes the tour in the company of his equally amiable grandfather. The children must learn to follow Mr. Wonka's rules in the factory – or suffer the consequences.

The delicious adventures of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory light up the stage in this captivating adaptation of Roald Dahl's fantastical tale. Featuring the enchanting songs from the 1971 film, in addition to a host of fun new songs, Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka JR. is a scrumdidilyumptious musical guaranteed to delight everyone's sweet tooth.

When NDV was faced with the uncertainty of school closures and the entire nation shut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 8th Grade Class was inspired by Willy Wonka JR. to continue to believe and imagine a production as an old-fashion radio production.  Just as Charlie must overcome many obstacles in the show, NDV has had to do the same. We started out rehearsing a musical with song and dance.  Kim Saunders, our Director had plans to bring the magic to life on stage, and the world Charlie lived in, a reality.   Thanks to our intrepid principal and parents that just wouldn’t give up we have overcome many obstacles to bring you a radio show production of Willy Wonka JR.  

The colorful costumes and sets would have made a feast for the eyes, but your imagination can do that as well.  While radio drama is very different and doing it remotely has had its challenges, thanks to technology and everyone's hard work we have succeeded in putting together a show for everyone!
